Mission and values of IYNF

The reason of IYNF existence is expressed in its mission statement:

IYNF is an international youth NGO, which together with its members promotes the ideals of sustainable development, a socialist democratic society and the personal development of young people.

We work to achieve these ideals through the promotion of integrative tourism, active youth participation and non-formal education, specifically offering young people an environmental experience and the opportunity for intercultural and experiential learning.

Values

The mission statement is built on the junction of three routes marked by three colours: red, green and blue.

The red marked route comes from the land where values of solidarity, justice, democracy, peace, internationalism rule. We might call it democratic socialism, however this very term is not without discussions within the movement.

The green marked route comes from the country where love and care for nature, direct environmental experience, sustainability and environmental education are the guiding values.

These routes have intertwined in the history of Naturefriends ever since it was established at the dusk of 19th century. The youngest of the routes, the blue one dates back to early seventies when youthwork happened to be an inherent part of the Naturefriends life.

Blue colour stands for the youth participation, personal development, non-formal and experiential education.

The glue that holds these different worlds together is fun and friendship.
