Tube IV 2010
New Year, new Tube
The flow of time is one of the main factors which structure our life. It can be stressful, but it also helps us to organise ourselves. The end of the year and its transformation to the new one is just the matter of counting and naming the dates, but there is a ritual sense in it, so we need it, to have the impression of some kind of control. Maybe it is the reason why we are so attached to this celebration and follow this tradition. It gives a chance to close the past and brings hope for a (better?) future. One chapter is finished, lets start the new one – it sounds encouraging, doesn’t it? The unknown and fresh things are always tempting, as we can try to shape them and have some influence on the outcomes.
It was also important for us and even had a resemblance in reality, as we had to move to another office. That required some effort and planning, then it was saying goodbye to the old place and finally arranging and improving new working space, what are not minor issues, if you consider the time spend in these rooms.
This time Vanessa became the main editor of Tube, but this is not the last change you will find in it. The new thing is that it is focused on one country, which for this issue is Germany. That is because our last activity, InTouch, took place in Dresden. So you can discover some interesting facts about Germany and get to know German Young Naturefriends.
The beginning of a year is a perfect moment to present the plan of activities and meetings that we organise. Here and now, we would like to inform you about them and invite you to take part in them. But of course we haven’t forgotten about the one which happened recently. Therefore, you can read the interviews with InTouch participants or their own articles with reflections.
With this issue we also send you the folder from Naturefriends International, who invites to take part in their Photo Championship 2010 called “Countdown 2010 – Biodiversity”.
Stay Tubed and please, don’t forget to write to us, if you want to share your opinions or experiences with us and other readers. Make Tube 2010 your own Tube!
Please download Tube below as well as the Activity calendar 2010 and the leaflet for the NFI photocontest
Tube V 2010
It is all about priorities
This Tube was supposed to appear earlier, much earlier in fact… But in certain point we had to give priority to a bigger, more time-consuming and more challenging (as this was our first attempt to create it) publication. I mean Yearbook, which turned out to be a good idea and the outcome gave us satisfaction. We are already thinking about the next one. Suddenly, from the team of sometimes even 8 people in the office, we diminished to often only 4 full workers – this also forced us to reschedule or divide tasks differently. These decisions are never easy, but on the other hand – important and refreshing. They require a precious ability to make a review of the current situation, choose reasonably among things that need to be done and then await the future with all the consequences it may bring. Questioning, planning and sharing tasks… we all know it well from work, but even our private everyday life is full of these situations. Sounds like another learning opportunity…
We have a lot of updates for you, as we haven’t done it for quite some time. In this 5th edition of Tube you will find information about activities, changes and grants from the last few months and the coming ones. We are very happy to announce again that Martijn van den Berg was appointed a new Secretary General and introduce new members of our Presidium.
Besides, there are articles written by participants of our activities and meetings or by people already more involved in IYNF. Apart from this, you can read two reports on the topic of the Landscape of the Year. If you don’t know much about Austrian Young Naturefriends – this issue of our magazine will help you.
We always like to share good things, experiences and information, so there is also a page presenting a place in Austria, which we find worth visiting. Since we have new t-shirts the last page is a space with some photos we hope will encourage you to wear our “Naturefriend inside”.
Now we are looking forward to the summer when two new projects will take place, so we keep our fingers crossed for Cultural Fusion and Born to be Wild and already preparing Planning Weekend.
If you would like to add something or reply to any article – feel free to do it. We are always glad to receive feedback and contributions like texts or photos. Enjoy reading and expect the next issue in the beginning of October.
