The activity From Activism Roots to Naturefriends Routes: 50 Years of IYNF marked the anniversary of International Young Naturefriends by reflecting on the organisation’s history, values and evolving role within youth movements. It brought together young people and representatives of the network to explore how activism, environmental engagement and international solidarity have shaped IYNF over the past five decades, and how these roots continue to inform its present and future direction.

Through participatory methods, intergenerational exchange and non-formal education approaches, the activity created space to revisit key moments, struggles and achievements of the movement, while critically reflecting on current challenges facing young people today. Participants connected historical perspectives with contemporary issues such as climate justice, democracy, inclusion and youth participation, strengthening their sense of belonging to the Naturefriends movement.

The activity also supported collective vision-building, encouraging participants to reflect on how IYNF can continue to act as a space for empowerment, activism and international cooperation. By linking past experiences with future aspirations, it reinforced shared values and contributed to shaping the next chapter of IYNF as a youth-led, value-based and forward-looking network.
