Youth Work

These publications are key outcomes of the long-term project Greening International Youth Work, which aimed to reduce the environmental impact of international youth mobilities while strengthening the role of youth organisations in climate justice and sustainability. Together, they combine strategic reflection, practical guidance and concrete action to support youth workers, trainers and organisations in designing and implementing more environmentally responsible projects.

The Greening International Youth Work Handbook provides an accessible overview of why and how sustainability should be embedded in international youth work. It introduces core concepts such as ecological responsibility, climate justice and coherence between values and practice, offering reflections, examples and guiding principles that help organisations rethink mobility, resources and impact from a holistic perspective.

Building on this foundation, the Greening International Youth Mobilities Training Curriculum translates these principles into a structured learning pathway for trainers and facilitators. Developed as a training-for-trainers resource, it offers detailed session plans, methodologies and reflection tools that enable educators to run their own trainings on greening youth mobilities. The curriculum addresses practical aspects such as travel, food, venues and materials, while also engaging with inner processes, systems thinking and collective responsibility, supporting both professional development and organisational change.

Complementing the educational resources, Mangrove Regeneration – Natural Heroes to Combat Climate Change focuses on concrete climate action through nature-based solutions. The publication explores the ecological, social and economic importance of mangroves and presents reforestation as a meaningful form of carbon insetting linked to international youth mobilities. Drawing on hands-on experiences from youth exchanges in Senegal, it provides practical guidance, impact calculations and good practices, connecting environmental education with real-world action and climate justice.

Together, these outcomes form a comprehensive toolkit that supports reflection, learning and action, empowering youth organisations to move towards more sustainable, responsible and impactful international youth work.
