Mischa Snaije

Born in 1993, I am a French student currently completing an Erasmus masters program in Euroculture (basically European cultural studies). I will be interning at IYNF as part of my program, and I hope to be able to bring my knowledge of EU jargon to the table, as well as broaden my understanding of nonformal education methods.

My background is philosophy and history, which represent my interest and big ideas, and how they play out in the world. I took a special interest in education during my undergraduate studies, as I saw all too clearly how each new generation can be taught new ways of thinking and behaving (for better or for worse).

As an urbanite, I have always looked towards nature as an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. I find it essential for my mental health to regularly go for a hike up a mountain or in a forest, and I am convinced that people would be better off if they did the same. So for me, environmental education achieves two things at once: it can help people see things in new ways, and give some peace of mind from the sensory onslaught of the city.

For fun, I like to read a good book (preferably with a cat on my lap), go digging for new music or books, or plan a trip to a new city or a national park. “When you stare into the hummus, it stares back at you.”
