Green Urban citizenship is a unique training course which combines non-formal learning with direct community work and active experience of open air workshop festival Give&Get.

This course will take place in Latvian countryside, between 19 – 27th of July 2014. It will bring together 30 participants from across Europe, letting them experience sustainable living, community building, youth participation, personal expression and development. Participants will gain knowledge and experience in such community building practices like gift economy, urban gardening, sharing and bartering, through attending workshops of many guest lecturers and sharing their skills in wider community.

Young people across the globe are creating urban spaces where creativity, environmental and social action join together to inspire local inhabitants, encourage municipalities and empower businesses to adapt greener practices. There are many inspiring projects to tackle the environmental issues urban areas face, such as: creating urban gardens for growing food, leaving wilderness areas and creating spaces for interaction between humans and nature. This course will help to inspire and connect young people to explore the ways to make their communities become more livable, green and enjoyable. Throughout the course, we will analyze environmental impact of living in a city and countryside, discover possibilities to reduce ecological footprint of urban living and bring new initiatives to communities.  The training will also provide opportunity to network among each other for further activities and actively experience Give&Get festival – providing workshops and activities for festival participants and getting involved in community service.
